Dreams Do Pay My Bills!

On a cold winter morning, a snail started to climb a cherry tree.

A few sparrows on the neighboring tree made fun of the snail and laughed at his expense. They flew over to the snail and said, “Hey slow coach, there are no cherries on the tree!”

The snail looked at them & said, “There will be when I get there.”

This story made me sit up and think. We only live one life. There are no do-overs.  If we let time slip by without pursuing our desires, then we may miss our true calling in life.  How does one start to pursue their desires?  I want to share some thoughts today related to this.

Unleash Your Dreams!

Stop holding back on thinking about the desire that is deep in your heart.  It may have been there for a long time or it could be brand new.  It may be a quiet little whisper telling you to start your own business or it may be a roaring lion urging you to go back to school.  However your dream speaks to you right now, stop and listen.  Give it a chance.    Don’t squash your desires without even giving them a chance to blossom!

The Magic of Thinking Big.

Dreams & desires often make us uncomfortable, especially if they are big. Somewhere, we get conditioned to cutting corners, snipping our dreams every now & then. And lo! One fine day we realize that the dream was just that – a dream! I have always been a dreamer & I learned from other dreamers to let my dream expand.  Unpack your desires and let them grow on paper and in your mind.  Simmer the ideas for awhile.  Discuss your dream with a trusted friend.  It is amazing how something as simple as this often becomes the first step toward realizing progress toward a suppressed desire.  My desire to write began as some simple ideas jotted in a diary whenever the mood caught me. It was a friend’s blog that totally inspired me to go online.

Don’t Be Afraid To Fail.

I am guilty of this. Whenever I did not reach a goal I realized that it was because of my fear of failure. “Wake Up and Live” by Dorothea Brande helped me in understanding what would you do today if you knew without a doubt that it was impossible to fail?  It is a compelling question, isn’t it?  Fear is often hard to overcome.  However, the killer part is that we have so much more to lose by not trying at all. Fear is all in our mind.  We cannot let it rob us of our dreams!  Starting acting as if you cannot fail.

Dreams Do Pay My Bills!!!

Contrary to what most people believe, dreams do pay my bills. Most people believe that we cannot make a living at our dream.  However, there are a ton of people that have.  In fact, we usually make more money by doing something we love.  Of course, you have to pursue things in a thoughtful way.  If you are supporting your family, please don’t quit your job to pursue your dream without an alternate source of income. You need to keep telling yourself that it is possible until you start believing it…it worked for me and I am sure it will for you too.

Help Others With Their Dreams.

The more I have been a Go Giver, the more I get out of life. In service to people around me in whatever way possible is a practice that took me a while to follow. It has also brought me immense joy, not to mention the fun I have had! Structure your dream in such a way that it helps other people and then really go the extra mile in serving them. Helping others bring their dreams into reality is a great way to leap ahead with your own.

Never Ever Give Up.

The thought of giving up means to die a slow death. The older I get, the more I believe that a lot of the difference between success and failure is perseverance.  We often expect too much too soon. Pace yourself.  Don’t burnout and give up.  This is the biggest danger to our success.  Keep trudging along even when you don’t feel like it.  It is okay to take a break, but don’t quit. Very often I have found that I have achieved small victories just when I thought it was the end! Success is not for quitters.

Dreams are there to follow…they exist to create a purpose in our life. Our job is to simply follow them. Start with simple steps and see the momentum build up.

Here’s wishing you all a “Just Do It” day ahead!!!
